 Sample Answer to PART 1 
Borrowing/Lending
1. Do you like to lend things to others?
Well, it depends on what kinds of things. If it’s just a small, ordinary thing, I’d like to lend it to others. However, if it’s a valuable item, or a large amount of money, I will consider the solvency of the person before making a decision.

2. Have you ever borrowed money from others?
Yes, only once or twice. I only borrow money when I really need it, and I will explain why I borrow the money and when to pay it back. I remember once when I went shopping with my friend, I took a fancy to a dress, but when I made the payment, the chip of my bank card was out of order, so I borrowed money from my friend.

3. How do you feel when people don’t return things they borrowed from you?
Well, I think it depends. If someone failed to return my belongings without any reason, I would feel disappointed and even angry at them, since they don’t respect promises. However, I can understand if they don’t return my items due to some unexpected accidnets and have explained them to me in advance.

 Sample Answer to PART 2 
Let me tell you about a time when I met with my friend at the airport in Beijing. That was at the end of last year, when the Spring Festival was coming, and I was going back to my hometown.

I was reading a magazine while waiting for my flight, then I heard a voice calling my name. I looked around and found that my old friend was standing in front of me and smiling at me. It was so surprising because you know, it was nearly impossible to meet a person you knew in such a big city, and we even would take the same flight to the same destination. He was my classmate and one of my best friends in college. He was taking a business trip to my hometown.

It was so exciting to meet my old friend and we hadn’t seen each other for three years, so we had lots of things to talk about. We shared a drink in the cafe and talked about the past things which had happened during the three years. The waiting hours passed very quickly and before we started to board, we promised to keep in touch in the future regularly.

 Sample Answer to PART 3 

1. Does social media help to build your relationships?
Yes. I’ve been meeting friends through Facebook pages. I think it allows you to reach a wider spectrum of people. Nowadays, it isn’t common to come across new friends in public places. The social media allows people to advertise social events, which brings people together.

2. Do unexpected things lead to progress in our civilization?
Well, Yes. Take war as an example. Most people think that war is good for nothing, but war in fact has been good for the development of science and technology. Some military tools may evolve into non-military devices, such as the radar. The British Air Ministry used it to detect aggressors during the early days of World War II. Later, radar has been widely used in weather forecasting, resource detection and other scientific research. It even inspired the invention of the microwave oven.

3. Why do friends meet up?
Meeting friends is good for your health. Friends can help you celebrate good times and provide support during bad times. Friends prevent loneliness and give you a chance to offer needed companionship. Meeting friends can also increase your sense of belonging, boost your happiness and reduce your stress.
