● Yes! I’ve got a feeling that I got extremely irritable and worried and I tended to scold my sister for her small mistakes, which I felt really uncomfortable about! ● To be honest, I used to be frantic with worry when I was required to stay at home all day, witnessing the situation getting worse with a lot more infected cases! |
Do you believe that practicing social-distancing can badly affect our well-being? |
● Certainly! Even many scientists have proved that social-distancing is taking a heavy toll on people’s well-being, especially their mental health! ● While I agree that social distancing does cause people to suffer from mental problems, I believe that it’s necessary in saving people’s lives and warding off the pandemic. |
Why does social-distancing badly affect people’s health? |
● Social interactions are actually basic human needs. Hence, feeling insufficiently connected to others can trigger many dangerous mental illnesses. ● We often have to witness the fact that the situation is getting worse as many people fail to stick to the rules, which might cause us to suffer from panic attacks. |
Can you give some visible signs for this phenomenon? |
● Many people admitted that they used to get so pessimistic about their future that they had the intention to commit suicide! ● Social-distancing gives people the feeling of being imprisoned and they tend to become bad-tempered. It’s obvious that this fact can adversely affect their work capacity. |
Are there particular groups who are especially vulnerable to mental problems during this time? |
● Healthcare workers are on the front line of this pandemic, being put under intense pressure, so they run the greater risk of succumbing to mental issues. ● I believe that people with lower incomes are the most susceptible ones because they’ve always been scrambling to make ends meet during the crisis. |
What can we do to protect ourselves against these adverse effects of social-distancing? |
● You can hang out with your friends through virtual meetings on your smartphones. This can make you happier and have more belief in a bright future. ● Taking exercises also provides a range of benefits, including reducing stress and improving mental health so taking a walk outside might be useful for you! |
